❊ Running for Billie

About.

In November 2026, a small team of friends will take on the world's most iconic marathon — the New York City Marathon. Together, we'll run 42.2 kilometres through the streets of New York, not for a personal best, but for a purpose.

We're running in honour of Billie Vera Reilly, who spent all ten days of her life in NICU care before passing away.

Through Billie, we experienced first-hand the extraordinary dedication, expertise and compassion of the neonatal teams who care for our most vulnerable babies and support families through unimaginable circumstances.

Since launching Billie's Besties, our community has raised more than $200,000, funding life-saving equipment and supporting babies and families navigating neonatal care and loss.

Together, we've already achieved one incredible milestone — fully funding a new therapeutic cooling system for the NICU.

Now, we're setting our sights on the next priority identified by the neonatal team: raising $230,000 for advanced amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) monitors.

These monitors continuously track a baby's brain activity using small sensors placed on their scalp. This is critical because many newborn seizures have no visible signs. By detecting changes in real time, doctors and nurses can begin treatment sooner, helping reduce the risk of further brain injury and giving vulnerable babies the best possible chance.

Every kilometre we run represents hope.

Hope for babies fighting their hardest battles.

Hope for families sitting beside NICU cots.

Hope for parents navigating grief and loss.

And hope that, through Billie's legacy, more babies and families will receive the care and support they need when they need it most.

We'd love for you to be part of this journey.

Whether you donate, become a campaign partner, share our story or cheer us on from afar, every contribution helps create meaningful impact for babies and families across Australia.

Together, we're running for Billie.

Together, we're giving more babies the best possible chance.

Why This Matters.

Every moment counts when a newborn baby is facing a brain injury or other serious neurological complication.

Many newborn seizures have no visible signs. A baby may appear settled while abnormal brain activity is occurring, making it difficult for doctors and nurses to identify without specialised monitoring.

Amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) monitors use small sensors placed on a baby's scalp to continuously monitor brain activity in real time. This allows neonatal teams to detect silent seizures within minutes, begin treatment sooner and closely monitor how a baby's brain responds during those critical first days of life.

For babies diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy (HIE) and other neurological conditions, this technology works alongside treatments such as therapeutic cooling to provide vital information that helps guide clinical decisions and improve outcomes.

Access to this technology isn't just important — it can change the course of a baby's life.

Through our NYC Marathon campaign, we're raising $230,000 to help fund new aEEG monitors for the NICU, ensuring more babies have access to this life-saving technology when they need it most.

Because every baby deserves the best possible chance.

Dani

Founder of Billie’s Besties | Mother to Billie and Fletcher | Team Billie Runner

Dani founded Billie’s Besties in honour of her daughter Billie, who spent her life in NICU care before passing away at just 10 days old. What began as a deeply personal tribute has grown into a community-led movement raising funds for neonatal care, bereavement support and families navigating loss.

In 2026, Dani will take on the New York City Marathon as her most ambitious fundraising challenge yet, helping raise funds for life-saving neonatal equipment and ensuring Billie’s legacy continues to create meaningful impact for other families.

Firefighter | Outdoor Enthusiast | Team Billie Runner

Janner is a firefighter who loves adventure, challenge and the outdoors. After not competing in a running event for more than 20 years, he recently completed the Noosa Half Marathon and is now preparing for his biggest challenge yet — the New York City Marathon.

Inspired by the strength and resilience Dani and Dan have shown in creating Billie’s Besties, Janner is running to honour Billie’s memory and help raise funds for babies and families who need it most.

Sharni

Co-Founder or Remote Sales Institute | Director of Beyond Closers | Team Billie Runner

Sharni is a long-time friend of Dani, having first met while travelling through Mexico and New York many years ago. As a mother of two young children, Billie's story and the mission of Billie’s Besties hold a special place in her heart.

She is proud to be running the New York City Marathon in support of Billie’s Besties, helping raise funds for life-saving neonatal equipment and honouring the incredible legacy created in Billie’s name.

❊ More Than a Marathon

Our Goal

Our goal is to raise $230,000 through the NYC Marathon campaign to fund advanced amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) monitors for the NICU.

These monitors play a vital role in helping doctors and nurses detect silent seizures and monitor brain activity in newborn babies when every minute counts.

Thanks to our incredible community, we've already fully funded a new therapeutic cooling system for the NICU. Now, we're taking on the next priority identified by the neonatal team—ensuring more babies have access to this critical brain monitoring technology.

Together, we're running 42.2 kilometres through the streets of New York to honour Billie, support families navigating neonatal care and loss, and help fund equipment that gives vulnerable babies the best possible chance.

With the support of our community, partners and donors, we're determined to turn every kilometre into impact, every donation into hope, and Billie's legacy into something that continues changing lives for years to come.
